**$30 Spray Tan Special. The Lakes, Tauranga**
When is the best time to get a spray tan before an event? 24-28 hours is ideal, with 48 hours before being considered the 'golden time' and peak time for your time looking at its best and natural. The tan is washed off within hours, but it takes 24 hours to fully develop. The extra day is considered ideal to allow it to settle in to your natural skin tone so you no longer smell the DHA ingredient and to remove the risk of colour transfer. If aftercare is followed, your tan will last 7-10 days, gradually fading out without streaks.
Will my tan be orange or streaky? No, Black Magic Tan is a premium-quality solution applied with an HVLP fine spray gun and iTan Luxe machine, so you won't get a streaky orange tan ever. and the tan fades out over 7-10 days smoothly. The ranges feature lovely natural-looking caramel and chocolate bases, and you get to choose your look. All solutions include added natural ingredients that support the skin's health. I am certified as a Black Magic Tan applicator.
What brand of spray tanning product do you use? I use Black Magic Tan primarily because the tans are stunning, and as a beauty therapist, I love that their products care about the skin and your health. There is a wide range of options, and I offer the Argan range, as this is a mix of organic and natural ingredients. The fast-developing Ultimate Dark tan also has added skin support and also does not dry out the skin. Both ranges share these ingredients: Most importantly, natural DHA (this creates the tan colour on the skin), reinforced with Aloe Vera, Wattle Seed Extract, Green Tea Extract, Witch Hazel, and Organic Argan Oil.
What do I need to do prior to my appointment? Preparation: Do not use any soaps or shampoos directly before or directly after your spray tan.
Exfoliate your skin in the days prior and 24 hours before. Avoid moisturiser, deodorant, perfume, or makeup on tanning day. Shave or wax at least 24 hours prior. Creams: Stop 3-5 days prior and 2 days after salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide washes/creams, retinoids, AHAs, and BHAs – use hyaluronic acid instead. Accutane for acne, a spray tan is not suitable.
*I advise against using deodorants with aluminium content prior. Even when not worn to the appointment, the remnants can create visible green streaks around the underarm area. Look for more natural, aluminium-free deodorants which are also much better for your health.
When should I get a tan if I have an event? I recommend no less than 24 hours before. Even after showering off your tan solution the first time, it continues to develop for hours after. For events, if you are new to the range, I recommend starting with a test tan or two. There are various options to balance tones in your skin so the tan suits you perfectly. You also have a choice of how dark you want the tan to be. I will advise my recommendation, and you can make the final selection. Having options is great, and with feedback from previous appointments, I can tailor the tan to the perfect tan for you.
What do I wear to the appointment? Wear dark, loose clothing and jandals so when you leave with your tan, clothes won't rub off the solution. You can park right up at the entrance for a quick exit to your vehicle too. Most clients wear a bikini bottom or underwear and not a bra or bikini top, so they avoid strap marks. I also have clients who need no tan lines at all, and they are comfortable wearing clothing or underwear. The main thing is for you to feel comfortable. We can easily adjust straps and adjust underwear to suit the outfit you will be wearing so you do not see any tan lines. Some clients go home barefoot too, if they plan on wearing strappy or open shoes. Just do what works for you, and I will make it work for your outfit. I am a qualified professional, and your comfort is my priority. I will provide a hairnet to protect your hair, and I can supply disposable underwear and sticky feet.
Will the tan stain my clothing? Black Magic Tan is formulated to be low-transfer, and the cosmetic bronzers are designed to wash out of clothing and bedding. While it helps minimise transfer, you may notice some temporary colour rub-off during the initial development period. This is normal and should wash out easily. You will likely want to sit down at some point (or need to drive home after the tan), so place down a towel to save having to wipe the seats down later.
What do I need to do once I have the tan? Aftercare/Home Care: Avoid swimming, sweating, and showering during the development time. Rinse off in lukewarm water and pat dry. During and after development time, chlorine, saltwater, and excessive sweating may fade your tan faster. Rinse off in lukewarm water and pat dry. Avoid long hot showers, exfoliants and oil-based products, and continue to pat dry. Moisturise daily, morning and night, but not in the first 12 hours. Use tan extender for a longer-lasting tan. IPL/Laser treatments – don't attend appointments with a spray tan; see your clinic for details.
When should I return for another tan? To maintain a constant tan, a weekly appointment will do it. In some cases the tan lasts longer; for example, the Argan range has demonstrated this, but it will be lighter than the first day. It depends what colour you are after.
Does a spray tan provide sun protection? No, not at all. You must use sunblock and cover up as normal. SPF 50 is recommended.
How do I prepare for a massage? Showering prior to the massage is required to ensure hygiene standards are met in the salon and creates a much nicer experience for you and for myself as the therapist.
Do I need to shave or wax body hair prior? This is not required, but it will help you enjoy your massage more, as the surface is smoother for massaging. Extra-long hair will need to be removed prior, as it can be pulled in massage movements and be uncomfortable. You do not need to remove underarm hair; this mainly applies to the legs.
What do I wear to the massage appointment? Most full-body massages are best enjoyed while wearing just underwear, as bras can become uncomfortable and need to be undone for the back massage. I fully protect your modesty and will not see anything, even when you are turning over for a massage, due to some clever techniques with the towels. You will also be provided with items to wear while unchanged, which are easy to remove once covered by the towels on the massage couch. If your massage is booked for a specific area, you may only need to remove items of clothing in that particular area. Wear loose, stretchy clothing with minimal buckles so they are comfortable while lying down.
What style of masssage do you perform? I am currently offering Swedish Massage, which is a relaxation-focused massage, and reflexology. Swedish Massage is the most common type of massage available at beauty salons and is a wonderful way to release stress and tension. It is performed at a faster pace than some other massages and will be tailored to your specific needs. Pressure will be adjusted to your liking, and you will feel relaxed and refreshed at the end of the massage.
*You can also enjoy a hand and arm massage with a manicure, so please check out the Nail Services I have for you. Follow my socials to be advised when Aromatherapy and Hot Stone massages are available - coming soon.
What massage mediums do you use? I use a range of certified organic natural products. Through the free consultation, I establish which would be most beneficial to your skin and your body's needs. My range consists of coconut oil, almond oil and the full Tui Balm massage and body balm range. There are also specific products for localised areas requiring extra attention.
I don't want a full body massage. Are there other options? A full body massage includes legs, buttocks, arms, abdomen, décolleté, back and neck. Some of the options include a face and head massage. You can exclude any area you like, and we will discuss this during your free consultation at the start of the appointment. I have a list of options in my Services Menu, and I can always adapt the massage to a specific area or combination of areas that are not on the list. You may also prefer a 30-minute back massage only, for example. I am happy to price other options for you. Please contact me prior.
My daughter is 16. Can I book her a massage? Massages are available to adults 18 years and over. If the client is 16/17, then the parent needs to also sign the form and be present for the massage. I do not offer massage to anyone younger. Help with muscle tightness and aches from vigorous school sports or to assist in muscle relaxation while they see a physiotherapist is a common reason for booking.
Do you provide massage services to men? No, sorry. Go You Beauty is available exclusively to women, primarily due to being a home salon.
I have a medical or skin condition/recently had surgery/injury; can I still get a massage? The free consultation at the start of the appointment will determine if I am able to provide you a safe service. Adaptations can be made, and in other circumstances where it may not be suitable, I have a range of other services we can discuss which you may be able to enjoy instead. In some cases, written permission from a medical practitioner may be required.
*If you have a communicable (transferrable) disease, including a cold or more serious diseases that you can pass on during a treatment, I cannot provide any services to you at that time, as I need to look after my own well-being and the safety/hygiene standards of the salon. I am happy to discuss any conditions prior. As a professional I will, of course, treat you with courtesy and respect while ensuring your privacy on these typically sensitive subjects. Please contact me. (See Privacy Policy here).
What happens at the end of the massage? We call this the recovery period. I will help you rise on the bed and provide you a refreshing drink of cool water, allowing you time to rejoin the world. Some people need more time than others to be ready to get down off the massage couch, and I ensure you are safe to drive home. During this time, I will provide your aftercare and homecare advice to ensure you maximise the benefits of the massage and have the professional information needed to help you further enjoy your next massage.
What is Reflexology? Reflexology is a gentle, deeply relaxing foot therapy where pressure is applied to points that relate to different areas of the body. It helps your body unwind, supports circulation, and calms the nervous system. If you’ve been feeling stressed or run down, it’s a lovely place to start your self-care. I’m a qualified reflexology practitioner and combine Level 1 Reiki to create a deeply soothing, nurturing experience. You can also try this out via the short trial session in the service page options.
